Why Spa Headrests Are Becoming Almost Impossible to Find
If you’ve been searching for replacement headrests for your spa, you’re not alone — and unfortunately, there’s a frustrating reason why they’re so hard to come by.
The reality is, there was only one major manufacturer responsible for producing headrests for around 95% of spa brands in Australia. This includes well-known names like Spa Industries, Heritage, Lanark, Maax, Leisurite, Designer, Bullfrog, and many more.
This manufacturer shut down before the Covid pandemic, and since then, the industry has faced an uphill battle sourcing replacements.
Why Can’t Someone Else Just Make Them?
The challenge lies in the sheer number of headrest designs and moulds. Every brand, and often every spa model, had slightly different shapes, mounting methods, and materials.
For a new manufacturer to step in and recreate even a fraction of these designs would require hundreds of moulds, along with extensive tooling, design work, and investment.
On top of that, many imported spas — particularly those from China — were built using ‘one-off’ moulds made specifically for a short production run. This makes it nearly impossible to source replacements, because there was never any long-term parts supply plan.
To make matters worse, many Chinese spa manufacturers and importers show little to no interest in supplying spare parts to Australian businesses. Once the spa leaves the factory, after-sales support and long-term spare parts availability are rarely considered.
What Are the Options Now?
Because the original headrests for most spas are no longer available — and are unlikely to be manufactured again — the only practical alternatives we can offer are universal headrests, such as:
- Hang-over style headrests
- Suction-cup headrests
These types of headrests are designed to fit a wide range of spas and are the only realistic solution for many spa owners.
