Fixing Timer Issues in Davey SpaQuip Spa Power 800 & 1200

Fixing Timekeeping Issues in Davey SpaQuip Spa Power 800 & 1200 Systems - also Spa Power 750 & 1000

If your Davey SpaQuip Spa Power 800 or 1200 controller is not keeping accurate time—or the time doesn’t update at all—it’s important to understand that the issue may not be caused by the touchpad. In these models, the clocks are managed by the main PCB (Printed Circuit Board) rather than the control panel. This means that simply replacing the touchpad may not resolve timer issues.

The Likely Culprit: The Timer Crystal (Oscillator)
The most common cause of timekeeping faults is the oscillator crystal, a small component on the circuit board responsible for regulating the spa system’s internal clock. If the time shown on your spa is incorrect, does not advance, or resets unexpectedly, the timer crystal may be failing.

These timing issues may affect several Davey SpaQuip models, including:

  • Spa Power 750 (SP750)
  • Spa Power 800 (SP800)
  • Spa Power 1000 (SP1000)
  • Spa Power 1200 (SP1200)

How to Resolve the Issue
There are several options depending on the condition of your PCB:

Replace the Oscillator Crystal: This is often the most effective and cost-efficient fix. We supply crystals for the above models.

Replace the Main PCB: If the board shows signs of broader failure or damage, full replacement may be necessary.

Send the PCB for Repair: If the board is otherwise functional, a crystal replacement and professional inspection may restore full timekeeping performance. Click here for repair information.

Important Notes:

  • This component must be installed by a qualified person. Improper installation can damage the crystal or the PCB. We do not recommend "DIY" work due to risk of injury of death.
  • No warranty is provided on oscillator crystals due to their sensitivity to overheating or physical mishandling during installation.
  • Leg orientation does not matter when fitting the crystal.
  • Newer crystals are smaller than older ones due to changes in manufacturing but perform the same function.

Common Symptoms of a Faulty Timer Crystal

  • Spa clock not advancing
  • Inaccurate or drifting time
  • Time resets after powering off
  • Scheduling functions not triggering at the correct times
