Description
Convert older spa wiring to the modern AMP-style male plugs used on most current spa control systems and accessories (pumps, blowers, ozone, lights, etc). This is a practical little kit for technicians and electricians who need the more standardised plug setup when upgrading or repairing a spa.
A.M.P. (AMP) does not stand for "Amps" -- It is an abreviation for "Aircraft & Marine Products -- the original company behind the connectors and plugs. The brand later became AMP Incorpororated and is now part of TE Connectivity. AMP plugs are the most common "universal" plugs found in spa control systems for over 20 years now.
What this kit is for
- Changing older plug styles over to AMP-style male plugs
- Upgrading a spa pack and needing your existing accessories to match the new plug/socket style
- Replacing broken, corroded or heat-damaged plugs and re-terminating leads properly
Commonly used with
These AMP-style plugs are commonly found across many spa brands and components, including E-think, Balboa, Gecko, AeWare, Davey, SpaQuip, Spanet, Joyonway and others.
Recommended for upgrades from older plug types
Highly recommended when upgrading a spa from older plug styles such as C38, Mini J&J, and other legacy connector types to modern AMP plug and socket setups.
What’s included
- 4 x Male AMP plugs (housings)
- 13 x Male AMP pins (terminals)
- 1 x AMP crimper
Notes before you buy
- Pin count: 13 pins allows for spares and mistakes. Each plug uses multiple pins depending on the wiring required.
- Crimp quality is everything: A poor crimp can cause heat, arcing and failures. Make sure the conductor and insulation crimps are both formed properly.
- Electrical safety: Spa wiring is mains voltage. If you’re not trained & qualified, have a qualified person do the work.
Quick install tips
- Cut the old plug back to clean copper (avoid blackened/oxidised strands)
- Strip to the correct length (don’t nick the copper)
- Crimp firmly and evenly, then lightly tug-test each terminal
- Confirm polarity and wire positions before inserting pins into the housing
If you’re converting multiple components, this kit is a great starting point to get everything on the same modern connector standard.
