The Astralpool BPM range is one of the most common older pool and spa heat pumps still running in Australia, and one of the most confusing to identify. The same machines were catalogued by Astralpool Australia as both the BP Series and the BPA Series, and sold across Europe under an entirely different name. This page brings together the model list, the specifications, the European equivalents, the spare part numbers and the alarm codes in one place.

Read this first: parts availability
Almost every factory part for this range has now been discontinued by Fluidra. The range itself is long out of production, and the majority of the factory references listed further down this page are no longer obtainable as genuine Astralpool stock at any price.
That is the single most useful thing to know before you start chasing a repair. It is also exactly why the manufacturing and OEM platform information on this page matters, because many components in these machines were never unique to Astralpool and can still be matched by specification rather than by part number.
The flow switch is the exception worth checking first, because it is both the most commonly needed part and the cause of the most common fault code on this range. See the Astralpool BP / BPA / BPM Series pressure switch and flow switch listing.
BP, BPA and BPM are the same range
There is no difference between them. The warranty text inside the Australian manual calls it the BP Series. The Astralpool Australia product page titled it the BPA Series. The badge and data plate on the machine read BPM or BPT. All three names describe the same five models, and parts are shared across all of them.

All Australian models use R407C refrigerant, a PVC water barrel with a titanium coil inside, and 50mm water connections. Required flow is roughly 150 to 550 litres per minute, and an external bypass valve must be fitted above 250 litres per minute. Clearances are 500mm at the rear and sides, 1000mm above and 1000mm at the front for discharge air.
The original Australian warranty was 10 years on the titanium heat exchanger, 3 years on the compressor and evaporator, and 12 months on the thermostat, switches and all other components. The range is discontinued.
Reading the model code
- BPM = single phase. BPT = three phase. The letter is the supply, not the size.
- The number is the capacity step: 400 is 8.5 kW, 600 is 13 kW, 700 is 17 kW, 800 is 21 kW, 900 is 25 kW.
- A suffix appears on Australian machines. It also appears on some European catalogue listings, so the A alone does not prove an Australian unit.
- R suffix indicates the reversible heat and cool models sold in Europe.
- RW suffix indicates the later Pro Calor II revision.
The Spanish and European equivalents
The same chassis was sold across Europe as the Astralpool Pro Calor, and later the Pro Calor II. Weights, cabinet dimensions and water connections match the Australian units almost exactly, which is why the parts tree is shared. The important differences are refrigerant and supply voltage.

European Pro Calor II units run R410A with charges of 1.25, 1.55, 2.30, 2.80 and 3.10 kg by size, on 230V single phase or 400V three phase. Rated pool volumes are 18 to 29, 29 to 46, 36 to 58, 45 to 72 and 53 to 86 cubic metres. Cabinet sizes are 310 x 860 x 920mm for the 8.5 and 13.5 kW, and 340 x 950 x 1300mm for the 17, 21 and 25 kW. Minimum operating air temperature is 5 degrees, and defrost is by cycle reversal through a four-way valve.
Adjacent Astralpool heat pump ranges
The BPM range did not appear in isolation, and several neighbouring families share components with it.
- Astral Calor, around 2009: BLM200 (41434-004), BLM400 (41435-004), BLM600 (41436-004), BLM800 (43505-004), BLT800 (43862-004). R407C, NA8824 controller.
- BM, Aboveheat and PAC First: BM100, BM200, BM400, BM400R, BM600, BM600R, BM700, BM700R, BT700, BT700R. R407C or R410A depending on model. Most of the Pro Calor part descriptions actually name this range, so the overlap is large.
- Calor Evo, from around 2013: BLPAM100, BLPAM200, BLPAM400, BLPAM600, BLPAM700, BLPAM800, BLPAT700, BLPAT800, BLPAT900, Fluidra codes 55215 to 55222. R407C, white ABS cabinet, flow switch, forced air defrost.
- Optima, around 2008: Optima 7, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 50 and 60.
- V-Heat AHP, around 2010: the heat and cool series that followed the BP range in Australia.
- BLPI-JD (BLPIM 400 to 900), Bering Inverboost and Excellium Inverter are the later inverter generations.
Who actually built these
The machines carry Astralpool branding but were manufactured in China. Fluidra's own press release states that the group closed a deal with a Ningbo refrigeration company, enabling Fluidra to open Loitech, a plant manufacturing heat and cooling pumps, and notes that most Fluidra production plants are based in Ningbo.
Ningbo Skysea Refrigeration Equipment publishes its factory address as No. 568 Shizhu Road, Linyu Industrial Zone, Zhenhai District, Ningbo, which is the same address recorded for Loitech, and Skysea separately states a long-standing relationship with Astral in Spain. The Astralpool capacity, input and COP ladder reproduces the Skysea platform ladder step for step. Engineering, documentation and European certification appear to have run through Talleres del Agua in Cantabria, Spain, with conformity paperwork marked MADE IN PRC.
No surviving document names a specific factory as the builder of a specific BPM400A, so Skysea is best described as the likely OEM manufacturing partner rather than a proven builder. It matters practically because it explains why so many components in these machines are not unique to Astralpool, and why a discontinued factory reference does not always mean the end of the machine.
The NA6888 controller
The controller fitted to most BPM machines is the NA6888, which Astralpool did not design or build. It is a Chinese refrigeration controller that appears in heat pumps from several different brands, and the executive standard printed in the Astralpool manuals places its manufacturer in Suzhou, Jiangsu.
Australian and European machines do not share an identical controller arrangement. The Australian documentation shows three external safety inputs, while some European Pro Calor documentation shows fewer. Controller boards, display panels, sensors, flow switches and wiring looms should be matched against the actual machine and its wiring, never against the model number alone.

A15 on an Australian BPM is a water flow alarm
This is the code most often misdiagnosed as a gas fault. A15 means the water flow safety circuit is not satisfied, and the controller is refusing to run the refrigeration system without water moving through the heat exchanger. Common causes, roughly in the order worth checking:
- Circulation pump not running, or running on a timer that stops before the heat pump does.
- Insufficient flow from a dirty cartridge or media filter.
- A partially closed isolation valve, or a bypass valve that has been adjusted since commissioning.
- Air trapped in the hydraulic circuit after a service.
- A blocked or scaled heat exchanger.
- A failed flow switch, damaged flow switch wiring, or a corroded connector.
- An open external safety input, or a controller input fault.
Work down that list before replacing anything. If items one to five all check out and the circuit still will not close, the switch itself is the likely culprit. A worked example from a service call: a 2012 BPM600A at a property also running a SpaPro X2 spa pack indoors and a WWDG W3 swim spa. The heat pump threw A15 every afternoon once the filtration timer dropped out, while the spa equipment ran faultlessly. Nothing was wrong with the heat pump at all. The pool timer had been shortened and the heat pump was being left running on its own, which is exactly the condition the flow switch exists to catch. No part was needed, and a new flow switch would have changed nothing.
The flow switch is a safety device. It must never be left permanently bypassed, and any temporary bypass used for diagnosis is for a qualified technician only.

These are the Fluidra factory references that appear on the Pro Calor, Pro Calor II and Calor Evo parts diagrams. Almost all of them are now discontinued at factory level. Before you order a part
Two mistakes account for most wrong orders on this range.
Refrigerant. Australian BP, BPA and BPM units are R407C. European Pro Calor II units are R410A. Compressors and pressure switches are not interchangeable between the two, even though the part diagrams are shared. Check the data plate, not the model number.
Voltage. Australian three phase is 415V. European three phase is 380 to 400V. Contactors, breakers and the phase controller need checking before any cross-reference is trusted.
When contacting us, record the full model number, serial number, manufacturing date, refrigerant type, compressor make and model, controller and PCB numbers, fan motor details, capacitor values, flow switch type and pressure switch ratings. Questions we get asked
Is a BPA different to a BPM?
No. BP, BPA and BPM all describe the same Australian range. Astralpool Australia used BP Series in the manual warranty text and BPA Series on the product page, while the machine itself is badged BPM or BPT.
What does the T in BPT900A mean?
Three phase. BPM models are single phase and BPT models are three phase. The number is the capacity step.
Are parts still available for a BPM heat pump?
Almost none. Fluidra has discontinued essentially the entire factory parts list for this range. The flow switch is the part most often asked for and the one most worth enquiring about. Beyond that, most repairs now depend on matching a component by specification rather than by Astralpool part number. Send us your model and serial number and we will tell you honestly what can and cannot be done.
My heat pump shows A15. Is the gas low?
Almost certainly not. On an Australian BPM, A15 is the water flow alarm. Check that the circulation pump is running, the filter is clean and the bypass has not been altered before anyone touches the refrigeration circuit. If the water side is genuinely fine, the flow switch is the next suspect.
Can I fit a European Pro Calor part to my Australian BPM?
Sometimes, but not blindly. Cabinet, fan, grille and plumbing parts generally cross over. Compressors and pressure switches usually do not, because the Australian units are R407C and the European Pro Calor II units are R410A.
Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
Given how little is still available, that question now matters more than it used to. Fans, capacitors, contactors, sensors and switches can often still be matched and are usually worth doing. A failed titanium exchanger or compressor on a machine of this age rarely is, and the later inverter ranges are substantially cheaper to run.
Who made these heat pumps?
They are Astralpool and Fluidra products, manufactured in China through Fluidra's Ningbo operation, with Spanish engineering and documentation. That is useful to know because many components were shared across other brands built on the same platform, which is often the only route left to a part.

To the layperson, plumbing sizes and their names can be confusing due to the nominal sizes and naming conventions used.
This is not something we made up. Plumbers and manufacturers have used nominal (meaning ‘by name only’) sizing for decades.
Simply put, in plumbing, named sizes are often not the actual measurements of the pipe, fitting, or part. A PVC pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm anywhere. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Almost all fittings we use in the pool & spa industry use “pressure PVC” pipe & fittings. Do not confuse with “DWV” or other pipe & fittings and their names and sizes.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:

To reiterate, these are nominal sizes and are designed to fit matching fittings — not to measure what their name suggests. These are based on PVC Pressure Pipe AS/NZ 1477 Dimensions1.

Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems and other plumbing areas so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate.
Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly

Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
