Onga Balboa 23810100 - 2381 Heated w/ Air Switch. Hot Spa Pump 1hp with 1.3kW (1300W) heater element. Made in the USA. Comes complete with unions and an in-built air switch. This pump will run approximately 4-6 jets. Originally were under the Onga brand, but now are Balboa. The pumps are the same.
Pro-Tip: With Balboa supply becoming inconsistent, and the long-term future of these pumps looking uncertain, the Edgetec by Spa-Craft pump here is often the better option.
- It comes with new unions, which do require fitting, but the plumbing change is very minor. It also avoids the fragile air-bleed fitting used on many Onga / Balboa pumps, which is a common failure point.

Balboa spa bath pumps are one of the quietest in the industry. They offer maximum energy efficiency for lower operating costs, as well as no water retention for perfect hygiene, water resistant enclosures, and multiple levels of safety for your peace of mind.
The Balboa Pumps provide excellent hydraulic performance in a compact and extremely quiet design. Designed to circulate hot water in (whirlpool) spa baths, not spas, these pumps incorporate a special internal design to ensure the pump self drains eliminating the build up of unhygienic/stale water.
IMPORTANT: We are aware of some unscrupulous places selling bath pumps as standalone spa pumps. This is incorrect, and will lead to disappointment.
- These bath pumps are intended to help maintain temperature in a bath to roughly 36-38° and not to heat a bath from cold.
- Spa bath pumps are designed for spa bathtub operation only and should not be used in chemically-treated water or permanently-filled spas.

In plumbing, named sizes are not the actual measurements. A pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm across. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:

These are nominal sizes and are designed to fit matching fittings — not to measure exactly what their name suggests.
Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate. Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly

Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
