Common replacement electric motor bearings used in Australian pool pumps, spa pumps, circulation pumps and spa jet pumps.
Quality bearings from premium manufacturers such as NTN, FAG, SKF, Nachi, NSK, Koyo/JTEKT and Timken, depending on availability. Bearings supplied are sealed motor bearings suitable for the application.
Important: Pool and spa pump manufacturers have used different motor manufacturers and motor revisions over the life of many pump models. The pump model alone does not always identify the bearings fitted to the motor. For this reason, the safest method is to dismantle the motor and confirm the bearing number or measure the ID, OD and width before ordering.
Bearing suffixes: The four-digit number identifies the basic bearing dimensions. Suffixes such as 2RSH, 2RS1, DDU2, C3 and other manufacturer-specific designations describe characteristics including sealing and internal clearance. Where the original motor specifies a particular suffix or special bearing arrangement, that specification should also be matched.
-
6201 - OD: 32mm ID: 12mm W: 10mm
- Common small electric motor and spa circulation pump bearing size.
- Previously encountered in some small LX, SpaNET, Davey/Spa-Quip and similar circulation pump motors. Motor versions vary, so identify the original bearing before ordering.
-
6202 - OD: 35mm ID: 15mm W: 11mm
- Onga / Pentair: Onga service bearing reference 703610 has been used in Australian Onga pump motors. Exact bearing position and motor application varies between models and motor versions.
- Also encountered in a number of smaller single-phase pool pump motors. Confirm the bearing fitted to the motor before ordering.
-
6203 - OD: 40mm ID: 17mm W: 12mm
- Davey Silensor: SLS75, SLS100, SLS150, SLS200, SLS300, SLL150, SLL200, SLL300 and SLL400 motor assemblies use 6203-family bearings. Davey's parts documentation specifies different 6203 variants at the two bearing positions, so the original specification should be checked.
- Davey Silensor ECO: SLS ECO / SLS ECO variants covered by the corresponding Silensor motor parts documentation also use 6203-family bearings.
- Davey SilensorPro: SP200SV, SP200SVP, SP200BT, SP200BTP, SP400PV and SP400BT use 6203 bearings at both motor positions. Davey specifies a 6203-2RS1/C3 type at one end and a 6203 DDU2 anti-creep type at the other.
- Davey ProMaster Variable Speed: PM200SV, PM200BT, PM400PV and PM400BT use 6203 bearings at both motor positions, with different OEM specifications at each position.
- Davey Celsior: C200, C270 and C400 family spa bath pump motors are also known 6203 applications. Motor/version should still be confirmed before ordering.
- Hurlcon / AstralPool: AstralPool/Hurlcon service bearing reference 71300 is a 6203-size bearing used in a number of Australian Hurlcon/AstralPool pump motors. Check the particular motor before ordering.
- 6203 is also encountered in Aqua-Flo, LX Whirlpool, SpaNET, Spa-Quip/Spatex and other spa pump motors, but these manufacturers have used different motor revisions. Do not order solely from the pump nameplate without checking the motor bearing.
-
6204 - OD: 47mm ID: 20mm W: 14mm
- Onga / Pentair: Onga service bearing reference 703612 has been used in Australian Onga pump motors. Bearing position and application varies with the particular motor.
- Commonly encountered as the larger bearing in higher-output pool and spa pump motors.
- Also encountered in various Davey SpaPower/QB, LX Whirlpool, SpaNET, Spa-Quip/Spatex and similar jet pump motors. Motor construction has varied, so physically confirm the bearing before ordering.
-
6205 - OD: 52mm ID: 25mm W: 15mm
- Larger 6200-series motor bearing used in some higher-output electric pump motors.
- No universal Australian pump-model fitment should be assumed from the pump brand or horsepower alone. Dismantle the motor and identify the bearing before ordering.
-
6302 - OD: 42mm ID: 15mm W: 13mm
- Heavier 6300-series bearing with the same 15mm bore used by a 6202, but with a larger 42mm OD and 13mm width.
- Used in some pool and spa pump electric motors, particularly where a higher-capacity bearing is required.
- Confirm 6302 from the bearing itself. It is not interchangeable with a 6202.
-
6303 - OD: 47mm ID: 17mm W: 14mm
- Heavier 6300-series bearing with a 17mm shaft bore.
- Used in some medium and larger pool pump motor assemblies, but motor manufacturer and production revision determine fitment.
- Confirm the original bearing before ordering. A 6303 is not interchangeable with the smaller 6203.
-
6304 - OD: 52mm ID: 20mm W: 15mm
- Heavy-duty 6300-series motor bearing commonly encountered in larger pool pump electric motors.
- Australian pump manufacturers have used different motor assemblies across apparently similar pump ranges, so model-only compatibility should not be assumed.
- Confirm 20mm ID × 52mm OD × 15mm width before ordering.
Please Note: Bearing fitment relates to the electric motor fitted to the pump, not simply the pump wet end or model name. Pumps of the same make and model can have different motors depending on age, production run and motor supplier. If there is any doubt, dismantle the motor and read the number stamped on the original bearing before ordering.
To the layperson, plumbing sizes and their names can be confusing due to the nominal sizes and naming conventions used.
This is not something we made up. Plumbers and manufacturers have used nominal (meaning ‘by name only’) sizing for decades.
Simply put, in plumbing, named sizes are often not the actual measurements of the pipe, fitting, or part. A PVC pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm anywhere. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.
Almost all fittings we use in the pool & spa industry use “pressure PVC” pipe & fittings. Do not confuse with “DWV” or other pipe & fittings and their names and sizes.
Use the Outside Diameter (OD) to check your pipe against fittings. Below is a quick reference for common spa & pool pipe sizes:
| Imperial Name | Metric Name | Pipe Diameter (OD) |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2" | 15mm | ~21.2–21.5 mm |
| 3/4" | 20mm | ~26.6–26.9 mm |
| 1" | 25 mm | ~33.4–33.7 mm |
| 1.5" | 40 mm | ~48.1–48.4 mm |
| 2" | 50 mm | ~60.2–60.8 mm |
| 2.5" | 65 mm | ~75.2–75.5 mm |
To reiterate, these are nominal sizes and are designed to fit matching fittings — not to measure what their name suggests. These are based on PVC Pressure Pipe AS/NZ 1477 Dimensions1.
- º Internal diameters vary slightly by manufacturer and class.
- 1 Not all pool/spa fittings match these dimensions exactly. Some do not follow Australian or international standards. Chinese spas may use proprietary fittings.
Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems and other plumbing areas so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate.
Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly
-
Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
Hose & Tube Dimensions
Common flexible hose sizes used in pool/spa systems (approximate IDs).
| Imperial Name | Metric Name | Inside Diameter (ID) |
|---|---|---|
| 3/8" | 9–10 mm | ~9 mm |
| 3/4" | 19 mm | ~19 mm |
BSP – British Standard Pipe Thread Sizes
BSP thread names are also nominal. The thread OD will not equal the nominal name.
| BSP Thread Size Naming | Outside Diameter (mm / inch) | TPI |
|---|---|---|
| 1/16" BSP | 7.7 mm / 0.304" | 28 |
| 1/8" BSP | 9.7 mm / 0.383" | 28 |
| 1/4" BSP | 13.16 mm / 0.518" | 19 |
| 3/8" BSP | 16.66 mm / 0.656" | 19 |
| 1/2" BSP / 15 mm | 20.99 mm / 0.825" | 14 |
| 5/8" BSP | 22.99 mm / 0.902" | 14 |
| 3/4" BSP / 20 mm | 26.44 mm / 1.041" | 14 |
| 7/8" BSP | 30.20 mm / 1.189" | 14 |
| 1" BSP / 25 mm | 33.25 mm / 1.309" | 11 |
| 1-1/4" BSP | 41.91 mm / 1.650" | 11 |
| 1-1/2" BSP / 40 mm | 47.80 mm / 1.882" | 11 |
| 2" BSP / 50 mm | 59.61 mm / 2.347" | 11 |
| 2-1/4" BSP | 65.71 mm / 2.587" | 11 |
