Obsolete information for Gecko S-Class / M-Class (Metapack / SSPA / MSPA) spa control systems — also sold as “Spa Builders”
Gecko S-Class / M-Class style spa control systems with were commonly fitted to Monarch, Lanark and other spas in the late 1990s to early 2000s. They are now obsolete, with very limited parts availability given their age and the fact the manufacturer no longer suppors them. They used both integrated heaters, as well as low-flow "trombone" style heaters and an E10 circ pump. Almost no control systems are truly compatible with low-flow setups anymore.
You may also see these referred to as Spa Builders controllers in older documentation and parts cross-references. They share heritage with even older Spa Builders-era designs, which is part of why “like-for-like” replacement is rarely straightforward.
What this means
- There is usually no direct drop-in replacement for these older packs.
- Most modern solutions are retrofit bundles (new control pack + compatible keypad/topside + cables/harness).
- Retrofits commonly require plumbing changes (heater/unions), wiring/lead changes, and reconfiguring pump/ozone/blower connections.
- Electrical and plumbing work must be completed by appropriately qualified persons.
We cannot accurately recommend retrofit replacements for these remotely
These systems were produced in many variations (option codes, pump layouts, sensor types, heater styles and keypad models). Without an on-site inspection of the spa’s plumbing and wiring, any “this will fit” recommendation is a guess — and the wrong choice can create safety risks and extra cost.
Because of this, we do not provide consults for selecting a retrofit replacement for these older S/M Class (Spa Builders-era) packs. If you need a confirmed solution, engage a qualified spa technician to inspect the spa and match a retrofit kit correctly.
