Astralpool Impeller CTX 360 / P280 / P320 eVo / FX290 / E290 40060F

This is the genuine Astralpool impeller, part number 40060F. Astralpool lists it as the 1.0HP impeller and it covers two groups of pumps that share the same wet end: the CTX 360, and the P280 / P320 eVo / FX290 / E290 pumps. In the Viron P280 parts breakdown it is described as the moulded 11.5mm small impeller. This is the impeller for the Viron eVo P320 — not the Viron XT P320. Those two pumps carry the same number on the badge and take completely different impellers.

  • Physically Stocked, unlike most "drop-shipping" websites.

Supersession: 40060T Is No Longer Used

Earlier CTX 360 pumps were built with impeller 40060T. Astralpool has since consolidated the CTX 360 onto 40060F, the same part used across the 1.0HP pump family. If your old impeller or parts list shows 40060T, this is the part you now order.

The Viron P320 Trap

If your pump badge says P320, you cannot order an impeller from that number alone. Astralpool used P320 across two unrelated pump generations:

  • Viron P320 eVo (and the older CX / TX / BX family) — takes 40060F, this product, with an 11.5mm vane.
  • Viron XT P320 / P320 C XT — takes 40060X, roughly 133mm diameter with an 8.8mm vane.

Fitting the wrong one is a well-known problem in the trade — buyers have ended up machining eVo impellers on a lathe trying to make them fit an XT. Do not do this. Check the badge first.

The Impeller Rule (rev. VIR-2.0)

  1. Read the full model line on the pump badge, not just the number. Look for the letters immediately after the number: eVo, XT, or C XT, or the CTX / CX / FX / E model number.
  2. If the badge says XT or C XT, stop here. You need 40060X (P320) or 40060Z (P520) instead.
  3. If the badge says eVo, or the pump is a CTX 360 / CX / TX / BX / FX / E-series, continue. Isolate power and open the wet end.
  4. Measure the vane width at the outer edge. The 40060F is the 11.5mm moulded small impeller. If yours measures around 8.8mm, you have an XT impeller and this is the wrong part.

Confirmed Compatibility

Astralpool lists 40060F as the 1.0HP impeller for the following pumps:

  • CTX 360 (replaces the earlier 40060T)
  • Viron P280
  • Viron P320 eVo (and P320 pumps of that generation)
  • FX290
  • E290
  • TX and BX 1.0HP pumps

Viron XT P520 / P520 C XT 40060Z

If your pump is not listed above, send us a photo of the badge and we will identify the correct impeller rather than have you guess.

What This Impeller Does Not Fit

  • Viron XT P320 and P320 C XT — a different pump generation entirely, despite the shared badge number. Use 40060X.
  • Viron XT P520 and P520 C XT — use 40060Z.
  • Other CTX models — the housing looks identical but each takes its own impeller. See the table above.

Symptoms of a Failed or Worn Impeller

  • Motor runs at normal speed and normal noise, but flow and filter pressure are both down
  • Pump takes far longer to prime, or will not hold prime, with no air leak found on the suction side
  • Grinding, rattling or a rhythmic knock from the wet end
  • Pump humming but not turning — usually debris jammed in the impeller, often after the hair and lint basket has split
  • Visible debris packed into the vane passages, or vane tips worn back and rounded
  • Cracked or spun hub after the pump has run dry

When to Replace

Replace the impeller when the vanes are worn, chipped or cracked, when the hub has spun, or when the pump has run dry and the plastic has distorted. Blocked vanes can often be cleared rather than replaced — check that first. Because the mechanical seal is disturbed whenever the impeller comes off, we recommend fitting a new mechanical seal at the same time rather than reusing a seal whose faces have been separated.

Frequently Asked Questions

My pump says P320 — is this the right impeller?
Only if it is a P320 eVo or an older P320 of that generation. If the badge says XT or C XT you need part 40060X instead. The two pumps share a number but nothing else in the wet end.

My old impeller is marked 40060T — is this the right replacement?
Yes. The CTX 360 has been consolidated onto 40060F, the same 1.0HP impeller used across the P280 and FX290 family.

How do I tell an eVo from an XT?
The letters are printed on the badge immediately after the model number, and the controller housings differ visibly. If in doubt, send us a photo of the badge and the controller.

Can I machine this impeller down to fit an XT pump?
No. People have tried, and the result is an unbalanced impeller in a pump that was never designed for it. Order the correct 40060X.

What is the vane width?
Astralpool describes 40060F as the moulded 11.5mm small impeller. The Viron XT P320 impeller measures around 8.8mm at the vane, which is the quickest way to tell them apart.

Do I need a new mechanical seal when I replace the impeller?
We recommend it. The mechanical seal is split apart as soon as the impeller comes off, and reused seal faces are the most common cause of a leak after an impeller change. These pumps use the 75508 seal.

Is this a genuine Astralpool part?
Yes. We are an authorised Astralpool and Fluidra dealer and warranty agent, and this is the genuine 40060F impeller.
