Astralpool Motor Viron XT P320 Slinger SP71660
This is the genuine Astralpool replacement motor for the Viron XT P320 variable speed pool pump, part SP71660, supplied with the shaft slinger fitted. The P320 motor is rated at 0.75 kW output, 240V 50Hz, 4.1 amp, maximum 2850 rpm. The P520 uses a larger 1.5 kW / 6.0 amp motor and a different part number — the two are not interchangeable.

The Viron XT Part Matching Rule (rev. VXP-1.0)
A motor is an expensive part to get wrong, and the pump body looks identical across the range. Confirm all three before ordering:
- Model number — P320 or P520. The P320 is 0.75 kW / 4.1 amp; the P520 is 1.5 kW / 6.0 amp. Astralpool warns that mismatching a control and motor across these outputs causes the HI A over-current fault.
- Generation — XT, XT Series 2, or C XT. Motor part numbers have been superseded over the life of the range. Earlier Astralpool catalogues list the P320 motor as 71460 and the P520 as 71462; the current supply for the P320 is SP71660 with slinger.
- Photograph the motor data plate and the pump badge before ordering. The data plate carries the output and current rating we need to confirm the match.
Because motor numbers have changed across revisions, we would rather check your photos first than have a motor shipped back. If your pump badge says eVo rather than XT, this is the wrong motor entirely.
Symptoms of Motor Failure
- Pump hums but will not turn — check first for debris jammed in the impeller, which Astralpool lists as a common cause. If the shaft frees with gentle movement under the cowl and still will not run, the motor has likely failed
- BSUC fault code, indicating a stuck rotor or shorted phases. Astralpool advises repairing the motor before the controller when this appears
- Grinding, rumbling or rising noise from the motor end rather than the wet end — usually bearings
- Persistent HI A over current, once a wrong impeller and a mismatched controller have been ruled out
- Water tracking into the motor after a mechanical seal has been left leaking
A leaking mechanical seal is what kills most of these motors. If you are replacing a motor that failed after a leak, replace the seal at the same time or you will be doing this twice.

In plumbing, named sizes are not the actual measurements. A pipe called “50mm” or “2"” does not measure 50 mm across. Instead, it follows nominal sizing, an internationally-standardised naming system.

Understanding Plumbing Sizes & Nominal Measurements
Plumbing sizes can be confusing. PVC and many other pipe systems use nominal sizes—the size is a name, not the exact measured dimension. This convention is used across most pool and spa systems so that pipes and fittings remain compatible.
Why pipe sizes don’t match the measurements
The Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system standardises pipe dimensions so that pipes, fittings, valves, and accessories interoperate. Plumbers work with these nominal names every day, but DIYers can be tripped up if they try to match by a tape-measure alone.
How to Measure Pipe Correctly

Pipe size is identified by:
- The pipe’s Outside Diameter (OD).
- The fitting’s Inside Diameter (ID) (socket opening).
- Pipe Class / Schedule (e.g., Class 9, 12, 18 or Sch 40) relates to wall thickness and therefore the Internal Diameter (ID) and pressure rating.
- The outside diameter of a fitting is not useful (wall thickness varies by manufacturer).
