Aqua-Flo by Gecko Pump Replacements – XP2, XP2e & Circ-Master

In 2023, the Aqua-Flo by Gecko Flo-Master XP2, XP2e, and Circ-Master spa pumps were officially discontinued in Australia. If you are replacing one of these models, the most suitable alternatives are available in the Spatex replacement pump range.

Flo-Master XP2 2.0hp (4.8 BHP) - Two-Speed SX200-2
Flo-Master XP2 2.5hp - One-Speed SX250
Flo-Master XP2 2.5hp - Two-Speed SX250-2
Flo-Master XP2 3.0hp - One-Speed SX300
Flo-Master XP2 3.0hp - Two-Speed SX300-2
Circmaster 1/15th HP SXC35 or Maelstrom

Replacement Options

  • Spatex XP2 Series Pumps — The direct replacements for Aqua-Flo XP2 and XP2e pumps. Designed to fit the same plumbing connections for simple, hassle-free installation.
  • Circ-Master Pump Replacements — The Aqua-Flo Circ-Master is replaced by the Gecko Maelstrom and the Spatex SXC35 circulation pump. In most installations, the Spatex SXC35 is the closer plumbing match than the Maelstrom, making it the preferred option for easier fitting.

Notes About Horsepower (HP) Ratings

When comparing old Aqua-Flo pumps to modern replacements, it’s important to understand the misleading horsepower (HP) labels that were commonly used.

  • Spa Industries’ Inflated Horsepower Ratings: Many XP2 and XP2e pumps supplied in spas built by Spa Industries carried artificially high “brake horsepower (BHP)” labels. For example, a pump marked as 4.8 BHP often delivered the equivalent performance of only a 2–2.5 HP pump.
  • Hydraulic Horsepower (US method): Some spa manufacturers also used hydraulic horsepower, calculated as HP = (PSI × GPM) ÷ 1714. While it produced larger numbers on paper, it did not reflect real-world operating performance.
  • Standard Australian HP ratings: In Australia, HP is based on input power in Watts, then converted to HP (1 HP = 745.7 W). This provides a clearer and more consistent measure of actual pump output.
  • How to verify true horsepower:
    • Measure input current with an amp meter and calculate true Watts/HP.
    • Use V = I × R (Ohm’s Law) or check the pump’s amperage rating.
    • Be aware some labels quoted locked-rotor amperage (a brief surge figure), which can make HP appear higher than the pump’s actual running power.
Key takeaway: Many Aqua-Flo XP2 and XP2e pumps, particularly those fitted by Spa Industries, carried overstated HP ratings. When selecting a replacement, don’t rely on the old HP label—focus on input power, plumbing compatibility, and performance curves. The Spatex XP2 series provides the correct replacement with a true performance match.
