Error 3 in Spas & Hot Tubs - What is it and How to Fix

Error 3 / ER 03 / ER03 / ER.3 is a common error in spas and hot tubs. It can be caused by a few things. Some of them, you can try to resolve yourself. Read on below for more information on Davey Spa-Quip Spa Power and SpaNet control systems.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT - Any work, or panel removal must be done by a qualified person. 240V is exposed inside controllers & can be harmful or fatal.

What is Error 3?
In most Davey, SpaQuip, Spa Power control systems, ER 03 means "stuck button." This can be caused by: Faulty Touchpad, Faulty Cable from touchpad, or a PCB issue. One of the most common causes is water ingress where it shouldn't be, or buttons being pressed too hard on the touchpad, or some other cause.

Can Error 3 be Reset? See below for instructions for various controllers:

In Most Davey SpaQuip controllers, it can be reset by doing one of the following:

  • SP800 / SP1200 - Cycle Power Off & On. Then Press the Top 4 Buttons All Together until the system resets.
  • SP400 / SP500 / SP600 / SP601 / 54500 - Cycle Power Off & On. Press Up, Down, Pump buttons together until it resets.
  • SP1000 - Error means temp sensor failed. Likely fatal, and controller needs replacement.

If error reocurers, Send controller & touchpad to us for assesment, or call a Qualified Spa Technician with a "Type A" electrical license to asses. Ensure they don't just have a "Type D" or "Disconnect/Reconnect" license, as that does not allow proper diagnosis.

In SpaNet control systems, Error 3 means "Water Prime failed."
